My drop-in tub has a friction heater - how does it work and how do I control jet speed?

Installation

Model HD3260EWL uses a friction heater (not an electric heater with a control panel). The friction heater is a red-and-white unit mounted on the water pump - it activates automatically when the jets run and maintains water temperature passively without buttons or controls. Jet speed is adjusted via the air control knob (a small white disk near the jets) - turning it controls the mix of air-to-water ratio in the jets, similar to a carburetor. Two GFI-protected dedicated breakers are required for the pump(s).
